As a member of this team, an Optimization Engineer is crucial in assisting Gurobi users with various challenges, including model building, solver performance, and deployment within complex architectures. These engineers are dedicated to maximizing the efficiency of Gurobi products, applying their extensive knowledge of mathematical programming and coding skills in multiple programming languages. Effective communication is crucial, as Optimization Engineers must convey complex concepts clearly and concisely to diverse audiences. They have a genuine passion for optimization and a strong desire to both teach and learn. Optimization Engineers actively represent Gurobi by presenting at conferences, conducting webinars, and directly engaging with Gurobi users. Additionally, each Optimization Engineer selects and executes a self-chosen side project directly contributing to our products or business. Optimization Engineers collaborate closely with our Research and Development, Technical Account Management, Licensing, and Marketing departments. Our work often involves tackling challenges that demand creativity and teamwork for resolution. Currently, the Gurobi Experts - Technical Advisory & Support team consists of 22 members spread across 9 countries worldwide, and we are committed to fostering a healthy work-life balance for all our team members. What you will be doing?
- Respond to advanced technical questions from Gurobi users, covering API usage and solver behavior. * Conduct performance tuning for customer models. * Write technical articles for the Gurobi website. * Pursue a self-selected, impactful side project. * Present new product features and capabilities at technical conferences and interact with Gurobi users. * Collaborate with a skilled team on projects across various domains.
What experience and qualifications should you have?
- A PhD in Operations Research, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline OR 3-5 years of experience in a business-related field.
What skills and abilities should you have?
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills. * Proficiency in conveying complex ideas clearly and succinctly, both in spoken and written form. * A strong problem-solving orientation with meticulous attention to detail. * High emotional intelligence, particularly in self-awareness, empathy, and self-motivation. * A mindset characterized by curiosity and a genuine enthusiasm for learning. * Awareness and adaptability regarding time zones in a global team setting. * Analytical thinking abilities for problem identification and solution development.
What other requirements should you have?
- Proficiency in software development using a high-level programming language like Python or C++. * Practical experience in computational tasks related to linear and non-linear mixed-integer programming. * Basic system administration skills and a general computing affinity.
