Route Optimization Engineer

The Route Optimization Engineering will focus on developing and maintaining route optimization resource models, enabling performance and capacity improvements. This role will be part of the high-performing team that aims to make sustained improvements at all levels: terminal, route, and individual courier.

The successful incumbent will work with their team to successfully influence and implement successive changes, including implementing technology to impact cost-to-serve, flexibility, and quality of service.

Key Responsibilities will include:

1. Program Management

Develop subject matter expertise in route optimization tools and methodology
Responsible for developing, communicating, measuring, and meeting route planning and optimizing performance targets
Support and lead the program design, development, and implementation of route optimization activities assigned to geographical areas
Support the development of a multi-year road map

2. Final Mile Efficiency

Provide strong leadership of sustainable solutions to on-road challenges and opportunities
Drive transformation operational efficiencies and continuous improvement for managing and meeting performance targets and initiatives
Build and maintain route planning resource models that enable performance and capacity improvements
Develop methodologies to implement for daily, weekly, and monthly route planning and optimization

3. Process and Implementation Lead

Lead, initiate, and support testing and implementation of new technologies and methodologies
Drive compatibility of tools and processes within Purolator in a scalable environment
Implement policies, standards, and procedures as required
Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing Concepts in a process engineering or business-related function

4. Cross-Functional Integration

Lead initiatives and projects with cross-functional teams
The ability to develop, motivate, and foster positive relationships with all stakeholders
Serve as change agent, problem solver, and team leader
Design and execute engineering work-streams
Provide technical training and support to field personnel

Qualifications:

  • Experience in route optimization tools and techniques, as well as knowledge of best-in-class transportation and logistics methodologies
  • Must have 4+ years’ experience in engineering roles supporting operations or the transportation industry with a minimum of 2 years in field service engineering capacity support terminal operations.
  • Successfully able to implement change and enhance a team-based culture within a unionized environment
  • Working knowledge of project planning and project management
  • Demonstrated experience in leading projects and teams
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to work effectively at all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated ability to work with autonomy successfully
  • Strong competency with spreadsheets, statistical analysis, word processing, database, and project management software
  • Working knowledge of Visio and process mapping
  • University degree (or equivalent work experience) in mechanical/industrial engineering, logistics, mathematics and or operations research
