What you will do:
As part of our Data & AI team, you will collaborate closely with experienced AI Scientists, Data Engineers, and other experts to turn business challenges into impactful AI solutions. Working alongside consultants from DHL Consulting and stakeholders across the organization, you will help identify opportunities, shape problem statements, and contribute to building data-driven products that make a real difference.
In this role you will:

Support API and service development - assist in wrapping machine learning models into simple APIs and services. Help design clear interfaces and basic error handling.

Contribute to data and retrieval workflows - help build data pipelines and retrieval components by working on data loaders, embeddings, and basic search functions. Learn to apply caching and grounding techniques to improve model responses.

Assist with deployment and monitoring - participate in containerizing applications and setting up CI workflows. Support deployment to Kubernetes and help monitor system performance using logs and metrics.

Learn and apply evaluation techniques - help run offline evaluations and safety checks. Learn how to implement guardrails for privacy and compliance with support from senior team members.

Create developer tools and demos - build lightweight demos, notebooks, and documentation to support internal teams and improve developer experience.

Collaborate and learn - work closely with senior AI Scientists, Data Engineers, Platform Engineers, and Product Managers. Receive mentorship to grow your skills and understanding of production-grade systems.
What you bring:

University degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative or technical field, or a comparable qualification. Additional studies in business, management or economics are a plus.

Enthusiasm about broader business challenges and the ability to translate them into technical solutions.

Excellent English language, communication, and presentation skills and the ability to clearly communicate technical trade-offs and decisions to non-technical stakeholders.

Proficient programming skills in Python or R, solid SQL skills, experience with additional languages (e.g. Java) is a plus; software hygiene (version control, testing, code reviews).

Experience in building backend services or pipelines and integrating ML/LLM components.

Good knowledge of Retrieval/RAG, agent orchestration, and the field of AI in general.

Basic understanding of the foundational concepts of machine learning, statistical analysis, and/or mathematical optimization techniques.

Practical experience in analyzing complex datasets and developing analytical or AI-based models and a keen interest in AI innovation.

Some first experience in working on strategic or cross-functional initiatives in a corporate environment, e.g. through internships or student work.
