Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Due to an internal promotion, we’re looking for a Data Scientist to join the team, reporting to the Head of AI. You’ll work closely with engineers, analysts, architects and vendor partners to deliver practical, high impact solutions.
This is a hands on role where you’ll take ideas through to working solutions. You’ll shape business challenges into data science opportunities, explore data in Snowflake, build and deploy machine learning models in Python, and support them into production using modern MLOps practices. You’ll also help champion what AI and Data Science can deliver across NZ Post.
You’ll spend your time:

Designing and deploying machine learning, AI and optimisation models that solve real business problems

Exploring and preparing data in Snowflake and coding in Python
-
Applying MLOps practices to ensure models are scalable and production ready
-
Partnering with stakeholders to translate business needs into practical solutions
-
Monitoring performance and driving continuous improvement
-
Supporting responsible AI practices, with a focus on governance and safety
Mōu - About you
You’re an experienced Data Scientist, or in a closely related role, who combines strong technical capability with excellent communication skills. You’re confident engaging with a wide range of stakeholders across the business to understand problems, uncover opportunities and shape the right solution.
You’re proactive and comfortable reaching out, asking questions and seeking help when needed. You enjoy balancing hands on coding with business conversation and are motivated by seeing your work make a real impact.
You’ll bring:

At least 3 years’ experience in Data Science or Advanced Analytics
-
Strong Python skills and experience building and deploying machine learning models
-
Solid SQL capability and experience working with platforms such as Snowflake
-
The ability to clearly explain complex concepts to technical and non-technical audiences
-
Experience partnering with engineers and stakeholders to move models into production
-
Familiarity with AI techniques such as LLMs and their practical business applications
It goes without saying but we’ll say it anyway, an advanced degree in a relevant quantitative discipline is expected, more importantly, you’re motivated by impact and want to help turn data into meaningful outcomes for NZ Post.
