About the Team/Role
We are the AI Engineering team at WEX. We enable our product development teams to move quickly and deploy AI functionality into their applications in a scalable manner. We’re seeking a visionary Lead AI Architect to play a pivotal role in transforming our enterprise with a cutting-edge AI platform. You’ll spearhead the design and implementation of a centralized, scalable AI services platform, empowering our business units to unlock the full potential of data-driven insights, LLMs, and automation. Architecture Design: Craft a comprehensive AI platform blueprint, encompassing data pipelines, model development and deployment, API integrations, monitoring, and governance.

Team Leadership: Guide and mentor teams of AI engineers, data scientists, and DevOps specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.

Collaboration: Partner cross-functionally to align AI initiatives with business objectives, ensuring solutions deliver value across the enterprise.

Security & Compliance: Champion data privacy and security, implementing rigorous access controls and adhering to industry-specific regulations.

Technical Expertise: 5+ years of hands-on experience designing and deploying complex cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP, or similar) and 10+ years of total experience.

Communication Excellence: Exceptional written and verbal communication; able to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences.

Event-Driven Architecture: Proven mastery of event-driven architecture principles, with demonstrated success building systems using Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging technologies.

Programming Proficiency: Solid Python development skills, complemented by experience with relevant AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, etc.).

RAG Architecture: In-depth understanding of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architecture for augmenting large language models (LLMs) with relevant information from external knowledge sources.

Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Fluency with IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Pulumi.

DevOps Mindset: Embody DevOps principles, with expertise in CI/CD pipelines, automation, and monitoring.

Version Control: Proficient in Git and GitHub for collaborative code management.

Regulated Industries: Prior work in healthcare, finance, or government sectors involving strict compliance requirements is preferred.

MLOps: Familiarity with MLOps concepts and tools to streamline model development and deployment workflows.

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
The base pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the pay range for this position. Actual pay rates will vary and will be based on various factors, such as your qualifications, skills, competencies, and proficiency for the role. Base pay is one component of WEX’s total compensation package. Most sales positions are eligible for commission under the terms of an applicable plan. Non-sales roles are typically eligible for a quarterly or annual bonus based on their role and applicable plan.
