Job Summary

We are looking for a Senior Optimization Engineer with expertise in Meta-heuristics (MH) and Reinforcement Learning (RL) to develop intelligent decision-making algorithms for complex optimization problems. You will design and implement cutting-edge optimization techniques, combining heuristic and metaheuristic approaches (OptaPlanner) with deep reinforcement learning (e.g., Markov Decision Processes, Value Based Methods, Policy Based methods) frameworks to solve real-world combinatorial and sequential decision-making problems.

The Day-to-Day

As an Operations Research Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and implement mathematical algorithms to solve complex business problems.* Analyze large datasets to extract meaningful insights and support decision-making processes.* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate them into technical solutions.* Stay updated with the latest advancements in operations research and apply relevant techniques to ongoing projects.* Optimize port operations, and yard processes to improve efficiency and reduce costs.* Use advanced software tools like Java, Scala, and optimization solvers to develop and test models.

Your Background

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.* 3-5 years of experience in an operations research role, preferably in a technology-driven environment.* Proficient in mathematical modeling, statistical analysis, and algorithm development.* Strong programming skills in languages such as Java, Scala or Python.* Experience with Meta-Heuristics optimization software (OptaPlanner).* Experience with Reinforcement Learning for Markov Decision Processes (MDPs) – State, actions, rewards, transition probabilities* Value-Based Methods – Q-Learning, Deep Q Network (DQN)* Policy-Based Methods – Reinforce, Advantage Actor-Critic (A2C), Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO)* Solid understanding of linear programming, nonlinear programming, stochastic processes, and queuing theory.* Proven track record of successfully applying Meta-heuristics and Reinforcement learning to real-world problems.* Preferred: Research experience
